The MA in Integrated Marketing Communication/ MS in Business Administration (with concentration in Marketing) is a collaborative dual degree programme between the University of Malta and San Diego State University in the USA. On successful completion of this postgraduate programme students are able to satisfy the requirements of both universities and earn two Masters in Marketing- one from each university.
The objective of this programme is to help participants understand the rapidly evolving world of marketing and communications and to learn how various marketing and communications tools including social media can be combined effectively to meet an organisations marketing and communication needs.
The programme is offered under the auspices of the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences of the University of Malta, and the School of Business at San Diego State University. Both institutions contribute experienced teaching faculty to the programme thereby providing participants with both a European and US perspective of communications and marketing.
Course delivery starts with each new academic year in October. The course duration extends over twelve months to September of the following calendar year. It is divided into three semesters, with the first two semesters devoted to the taught component of the course while the final third semester is dedicated to independent student research.
The program will be delivered over 3 semesters (approximately 12 months) on a full-time basis starting in September. Throughout the first and second semesters, classes are held on a block basis allowing for each study module to have a pre-reading period, a delivery period, and a post-delivery period.
The summer semester will be devoted to the completion of a dissertation project in partial fulfillment of the course requirements. Attendance is obligatory and students must attend at least 75% of lectures and complete all assigned work. The pre-reading period will take place in the week prior to the start of the actual delivery period. This period is dedicated to individual reading, group discussion, and study sessions. It will also include two, two-hour online sessions conducted by the faculty member teaching the course.
The pre-reading period will ensure that students are prepared for the intense instruction delivered by SDSU and University of Malta faculty during the delivery period. The delivery period consists of regular class sessions meeting daily over a week or more depending on the number of hours allotted to the study unit. The post-delivery period, potentially overlapping with a pre-reading period of the next unit, might be devoted to a final paper, case assignment or a final examination as an exercise to conclude and synthesise the study module.
As is true with the pre-delivery period, the post-delivery period will include two, two-hour online sessions conducted by the faculty member teaching the course.
This is a collaborative degree programme that will be offered at the University of Malta. Teaching faculty will include professors from both San Diego State University and the University of Malta. All the course will be provided at the Old University Building in Valletta.
* A bachelor degree from a recognised institution. Generally For universities using degree classification systems, the degree is required to be an Honours degree at Second Upper Class or better.For universities that do not use classification systems, a cumulative GPA of 3.3 is required.
* Applicants who do not meet the classification or GPA criterion stated above are encouraged to apply but will be required to take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
* English Language Proficiency - Applicants whose undergraduate degree was not completed in English must demonstrate proficiency in English as evidenced by a TOEFL or equivalent test. Such candidates will normally be required to have completed a TOEFL (650 paper based examination or 280 computer based test or 114 Internet based) or IELTS (minimum level of 6.5).
* Letters of Recommendation - All applicants must provide two letters of recommendation. Applicants who have work or internship experience in a field related to IMC should preferably seek a recommendation from a previous employer. At least one reference letter should come from a former instructor.
